Play Therapy

Play therapy is recommended for children ages 4 -12. Play is a child’s natural language. Play therapy provides a therapeutic approach that is child-centered and evidence based. It helps children process a variety issues from anxiety, traumatic experiences, sensory overwhelm, social difficulties, grief and loss, life changes and more. Non-directive play therapy is often a wonderful outlet for neurodivergent children in which a more directive approach has backfired in the past. Through attuning with the child the therapist builds trust, helps with social and emotional regulation and improves communication skills. Relationship is key.

Family Therapy/Filial Therapy

Family therapy can be extremely beneficial if communication is out of sync in your system. The goal of family therapy is to help create clearer understanding, improve communication, and foster a higher functioning home environment. Filial therapy is working from a play therapy lens with caregivers of young children to help create a stronger sense of connection and attunement. Often times challenging behaviors we see in young children can find resolve as parents discover different ways of connecting with their children. Children and teens communicate big feelings in many ways that can set-off hard feelings for parents and it can be difficult to stay regulated. Balancing various neurotypes in your household can add extra challenge to communication issues and sibling rivalry. If things just seem '“off” for your family. I am here to help.
